Case Study: Claire’s Progress

I switched on my computer this morning to find a lovely update from Claire.

Diary Extract – 30th September 2015
Woke up at 4 am. Pain in thigh. Maybe I was too keen doing exercises yesterday. But no longer do I reach for the Anadin. I am no longer in a state of learned helplessness. I start taking control. I feel for my known trigger points, run through the glutes, the TFL, the IT band, then hit the spot on QL. Eureka. I know I have found it. Massage both sides, relief, followed by deep, restful sleep until 7.30, when I wake up pain free and exulting in the control I now have over my so-called “Osteoarthritis”.

Trigger point therapy won’t be the miracle cure for all. But for many it can be a huge help. Half the battle is believing in the approach enough to give it a good go. Claire has without a doubt worked hard for her pain relief. She’s been thorough, systematic and has gone to great lengths to research her own problem. But she’s proof that it CAN pay off. There is often a lot we can do to help ourselves.

She also shared a link to a guide that she found useful and thought might help others. This one is specifically about the Quadratus Lumborum which she’s discovered is one of her main culprits. But I believe there are more available.

I have found a useful DVD guide to Anatomy, you can see some extracts on Youtube. It is the "Trail Guide to the Body", by Andrew Biel, a massage therapist. I always found Anatomy difficult to envisage, this makes it easier.
